Castro Valley, Calif. – May 18, 2017 – Cumming, an international construction project management and cost consulting firm, announced that it will be kicking off construction for the voter-approved Measure G Bond Program with Castro Valley Unified School District (CVUSD) this spring.

The $123 million bond program will allow for much needed repairs to the District’s older buildings and will help to modernize outdated classrooms, permitting the installation of educational-based technologies and providing students with environments more conducive to 21st century learning. Following the passage of Measure G, CVUSD and Cumming, along with the team’s other design and construction partners, have been taking all necessary schedule and budget planning steps to begin the modernization of high priority facilities, which is planned to take place District-wide during the next several years.

After the completion of a detailed needs assessment, a comprehensive Facilities Master Plan, and the creation of site specific timelines, CVUSD has approved the Measure G Implementation Plan, allowing preconstruction activities to start. While all CVUSD schools will benefit from Measure G, construction will begin this summer on several of the high priority schools, to address accessibility and utility upgrades, install additional security cameras, repair paving and roofing issues, and add additional HVAC systems.  This first phase of improvements kicking off during the summer will include work at:

  • Marshall, Chabot, and Stanton Elementary Schools
  • Canyon Middle School
  • Castro Valley High School

“The proposed modernizations, upgrades, expansions and new buildings in Bond Measure G will significantly enhance the students learning experience and help with modernizing teaching methods to align with 21st century standards,” said John Olsson, Senior Director at Cumming. “The Measure G Bond Program improvements align with the high standards of teaching that the Castro Valley School District brings to their students and community.”

Experts in educational construction project and cost management services, Cumming is providing overall project management on behalf of the District. Cumming will be overseeing the critical construction and renovation projects to make sure the multi-phased program stays within budget and adheres to the timeline established by the District.
