Middle College High School, Los Angeles, CA

Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) and Los Angeles Southwest College (LASC) have long partnered to offer LAUSD students the opportunity to attend high school on the LASC campus, integrating their high school education with the ability to pursue college coursework. Since the program’s inception, these classes have been taught in a series of bungalows or portable classroom buildings. In a demonstration of each entity’s long-term commitment to the program, LAUSD and LACCD have overseen the development and completion of the new $18.6 million, 37,692-sq.-ft. Middle College High School, which replaces the bungalows and provides the high school program a permanent home on the LASC campus. Middle College High School was built using the design-build delivery method, and has realized sterling energy performance through the use of on-site renewable energies, storm water treatment, and natural daylight harvesting. These and other sustainable elements have earned the project LEED Platinum certification. Cumming Group provided project/construction management services.
