Chicago Tribune Tower, Chicago, IL

Constructed in 1925, the neo-gothic Chicago Tribune Tower is a well-known Chicago landmark that was previously home to the Chicago Tribune, Tribune Media, and Tribune Publishing. This project, for which Cumming Group is providing cost services, includes the renovation and conversion of the existing tower to a residential building with 165 units, along with new retail space. Interior demolition within the Tribune Tower has been underway since October, with the full project expected to take three years to complete. Along with the renovation, Cumming Group will provide similar services in support of a planned 1,422-foot-tall skyscraper just east of the site. If approved, the thin skyscraper, designed by Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture, would have a 200-room hotel, 439 rental apartments, and 125 condos. It would be just 29 feet shorter than Willis Tower and take a prominent place in Chicago’s skyline, commanding attention near some of the city’s top tourist destinations, including Navy Pier and Millennium Park.
