In other news, construction services firm Cumming has broken ground on a 70,000-square-foot YMCA in Indian Land, a fast-growing community just across the state line in South Carolina. The facility will feature multiple spaces for group exercise, from yoga to cycling, as well as an eight-lane indoor pool and a large multipurpose space with an elevated walking track and areas for volleyball and pickleball.

“We are excited to see construction begin,” said Moe Bell, CEO of Upper Palmetto YMCA, in a news release. “We have worked tirelessly to ensure that the facility will be one that Lancaster County is proud to have as a part of the community.”

Built into the original design is space for a future water park, on which the organization hopes to break ground before the Y opens in 2020. Fundraising for that feature is ongoing.

Charlotte-based LS3P Associates is behind the design of the facility, with Sossamon Construction of Gaffney, South Carolina, serving as general contractor.
